Acres of Antiques

Last weekend we were at the Brimfield Antique Show. If you've never been, try to go at least once. It is definitely an experience you will never forget. It takes place three times a year and is the largest outdoor antique show in the world, with over 6,000 dealers. I don't know what the 'acreage' of the fair is, but it is quite vast.. wear some good shoes and bring a bottle of water and sun-screen. There are also many other permanent antique dealers in the area and a show at a large nearby hotel that has 'real' antiques. That's their claim... not mine, but when I saw the advertisement for it, I did have to agree that it is probably true even though I've never been to that particular show. What I mean by this is that even though Brimfield claims its the largest antiques show in the world, it is actually kind of difficult to find any real good antiques. To be fair, it is officially called the 'Brimfield Antique Show and Flea Market'. It's located in Brimfield, MA and its unquestionably a show, but in my opinion, its more flea market than antiques. Well, its still well worth the trip, especially if you are in the northeast US, and I love to take photos of things at the fair, so here's a little collage of some things you could find there.

There are real antiques, early antique knock-offs that are now "antiques" themselves because they are so old, and newer replications. Can you tell the difference?

Lovely things for the garden (none of which are antique...yet still fairly expensive)...

Asian imports... it is actually amazing how they can make things look so old...

Linens and furniture... the shabby chic and vintage linen look are definitely in...

The 'country' look...

The colorful...

The odd...

The random...

And finally, Lots of people, dogs, and food vendors...

I'm so glad you posted this. I live in San Francisco and recently went to Round Top in Texas for the first time. It was a toss-up between Round Top & Brimfield. My friend and I spent 5 days there, only to come back with one trophy and some hotel silver. I found there to be 1,000's of reproductions everywhere you looked. And the decorators buying didn't care. If they weren't repros, there was a lot of junk or repurposed items. If there was a real antique, it was really expensive. Wouldn't go again. But now it sounds like Brimfield is kind of like that as well. hmmm....Don't know if I'd travel to the east coast for that.

Thanks for the input and GREAT PHOTOS!
